SOINE VINEYARDS
August 2010
NEWSLETTER
Hello Friends:
Hot, hot, hot! The word of the season! Grape ripening is about two weeks ahead of schedule compared to years past. This is setting up to be a spectacular year for the red varieties. Warmer than average temperatures, combined with the season getting off to an early start will set the stage for some potentially stunning red varietals. A long hang time will allow the development of strong tannins and excellent color. We look forward to the 2010 vintage! Let’s talk about some updates here at the winery.
Here’s what is happening…
Upcoming Events:

The trip to the vineyard will be at 6:00pm Friday evenings and 4:00pm Saturday afternoons weather permitting. Tours will be limited to 10 patrons on a first come basis so if you are interested sign up for the tour when you arrive.
Volunteer Grape picking
When: Various days (mostly weekends) in September and October
Where: Soine Vineyards
Cost: Free (limited availability per harvest event)
Details:
If you’ve ever wanted to truly experience a small taste of a working vineyard and winery then this is your chance! During the upcoming months we will be harvesting each of our ten varieties of grapes. If you would like to volunteer to harvest grapes, please let us know by replying to soinevineyards@aol.comwith your interest in harvesting. Group size will be limited based on the current crop yield. We will give potential volunteers approximately 2-3 days advance notice that we will be picking on a certain day.
A typical harvest day will start around 8:00am. Depending on the yield, harvest will continue until 12:00 after which time we will provide lunch and beverages. Following lunch, we will crush the grapes and depending on the style (either white or red) we will press the crushed grapes.
Workers should expect attending for at least five hours and be appropriately dressed. We will provide grape cutters. Workers should arrive promptly at 8:00 to listen to a brief talk on safety and proper harvest techniques. A release and waiver form will have to be signed prior to the start of work. While we believe there is only minimal risk due to cutting and uneven walking surfaces and other unknown scenarios our insurance company is requesting this waiver so that the risks and hazards of field work are understood.
Other News:
